LIFECYCLES is grateful for your willingness to share your time, abilities, and interest in helping boys find their futures through the empowering and exciting experience of bicycle touring. As a volunteer in this faith-based organization, you do not need to sign this ministry’s statement of faith; if you don’t agree with the LIFECYCLES statement of faith, I ask only that you refrain from speaking against it as you interact with the teens. Your riding, supervision, and support of the teens is a gift, and we appreciate your commitment to them. Below, you’ll find a series of statements requesting your agreement, as well as a series of statements reflecting my commitment as Director.
Responsibilities of Volunteers
Responsibilities of Volunteers
- Bring a positive and encouraging approach to engaging LIFECYCLES teens. They have too much negativity in their lives already.
- Bring an attitude of kindness toward LIFECYCLES teens. They already face too much harshness.
- Bring an attitude of optimism to build their dreams.
- Bring a love for the outdoors and bicycling that can translate to a life of recreation and fitness for LIFECYCLES teens.
- Model and enforce safe riding practices.
- Reinforce the values of respect, dignity, and teamwork.
- Be prepared to listen much more than lecturing. LIFECYCLES teens get “talked at” enough already.
- Be prepared to use each LIFECYCLES experience to create a safe space for teens to explore, grow, talk, and become the person they were created to be.
- Exercise patience and take the long view. Building trust can take time and many contact experiences.
- Clearly communicate the LIFECYCLES vision, mission, and expectations.
- Provide training on the challenging dynamics facing teens in urban and other environments.
- Promote team unity, leadership development, and spiritual growth.
- Provide quality, reliable equipment for teens.
- Research, find, and plan scenic, enjoyable rides that promote growth and appeal to both teens and volunteer riders.
- Pray for all teens, volunteers, mentors, and members of the Board of Directors.
